How To Parkour

So you want to become “one of those people”.  AWESOME!  Parkour is a great way to get in shape, have fun, meet people, and just get a little crazy.  Unfortunately, Parkour is not something that just anybody can start.  The truth is, you need to be in at least decent shape.  Parkour can be very dangerous, and yes, people have died doing it.  I am not saying that to deter anybody from learning How To Parkour.  I am saying it to make sure that you take it seriously.  You do not watch a Youtube video of someone doing a Parkour roll after jumping off a 2 story building, and then go do it.  You start small, and work your way up.  Most people will NEVER do something like that.  Moves like that are on the extreme end of Parkour.  You do not need to be doing moves like that to have fun with Parkour.  Yes, you are going to have a lot of fun!  If you are not having fun doing it, why do it?  Just be sure to be careful, and do not do anything that your body is not ready for.

What Is Parkour?

I think that it is important to really understand what Parkour is, before you start really learning how to do it.  I found this definition, written by Mark Toorock, and I think it sums it up well.   ”

“Parkour is the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one’s path by adapting one’s movements to the environment.”

OK, that was my little warning.  Now, if you really want to learn How To Parkour, then let’s get started.  There are a few different areas that you need to understand before you can start doing Parkour.

How To Parkour – Training

You are going to put your body through a lot when you start learning How To Parkour.  Is your body ready to handle it?  If you are average, then NO!  You need to be strong, fast, flexible, confident, and if you are serious about learning How To Parkour, yes, you need to be able to RUN!  Some people face certain challenges that makes it very difficult for them to perform certain moves, or even the running portion of Parkour.  If you have any disabilities, that does NOT mean that you can not do Parkour.  Just be aware of what you body will allow you to do, and stay safe.  There are lots of different ways to train.  That does not mean that there are a lot of correct ways to train.  My specialty is helping people get into shape.  I am a certified Physical Education teacher, and a Team Beachbody Coach.  The more in shape that you are, the more you will be able to do with your Parkour!  If you want to learn how to get into the best shape of your life, visit the Parkour Training Page

How To Parkour – Parkour Moves

When people start learning How To Parkour, it seems like the first thing they want to do is jump off a roof.  DO NOT DO THAT!  There is a lot that you need to learn before you start doing the big Parkour Moves like that.  There is also a lot more to Parkour than just jumping off high objects, or doing flips off random things.  Parkour moves consist of running, jumping, climbing, balancing, and vaulting.  If you want to learn “how to parkour” for real, then you need to work on these different aspects of it.  So, if you are ready to get started, head over to the Parkour Moves Page.
